St. Peter's Overseas Mission Partners
About St. Peter's Mission Partners
David & Heather Sharland have been St Peter’s missionary links for well over 25 years. No one can remember how or why the link was originally established, but it has served as a valuable association with the world wide church and we support them by prayer and financial support through the Church Mission Society. They work with CMS in Arua, in Northern Uganda, David as an agriculturist and Heather as a midwife/nurse.
David has established Eden Farm as a demonstration farm on land owned by the local West Nile Diocese, developing crops, medicinal plants and trees and methods of water preservation compatible with the local climate. Local farmers are invited to come and learn how their farming methods and food quality can be improved. He travels widely and has established Young Farmers Clubs in surrounding villages to encourage wider use of these more up-to-date techniques. Heather works as Diocesan Health Co-ordinator, and has obtained Government approval to establish Health Centres throughout their local area, where she concentrates on teaching better pre- and post-natal practices, aiming at reducing the high rate of maternal and child mortality. She runs classes to teach young girls knowledge, respect and care of their bodies to try to stem the high rate of child pregnancies. In all of their work they use every opportunity to teach knowledge of the love of the creator God and of Jesus Christ, and of the importance of caring for the bodies God has given them and of the environment in which they live. More information about them can be found on the web page of Church Mission Society, inserting David & Heather Sharland in the search box. John Hutchinson, St Peter’s CMS rep. Phone 445625.
