Friends of All Saints
The Friends of All Saints East Budleigh was set up about 15 years ago with the aim of engaging with the local community (whether regular church attenders or not) to raise funds to help protect and preserve the fabric of the Church and maintain the Churchyard in good condition. The Friends organise events including talks, concerts and the popular East Budleigh Scarecrow Festival.
EAST BUDLEIGH SCARECROW FESTIVAL WEEKEND 7th and 8th June 2025
The East Budleigh Scarecrow Festival is back on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June! We encourage you to join us for a weekend of fun and games for every age.
As well as providing an imaginative display of scarecrows created by our village residents using their wit, invention and recycling skills, there are plenty of activities and refreshments to enjoy.
The Village Hall will be at the heart of this event, where refreshments, including bacon rolls and cream teas, will be on sale between 11am and 4pm each day, along with a variety of stalls featuring local crafts and activities, cakes, pre-loved books, and plants. Don’t miss East Devon Rock Choir and Budleigh Salterton Male Voice Choir both performing on Saturday. There will be musical entertainment on Sunday by our popular local performers.
The Scarecrow Festival would not be the same without the ‘Roger Conant Duck Race’. Be prepared to get your feet wet at 3pm as you get your duck ready to beat the best of the rest in this fierce competition from ‘East Budleigh’ to ‘Salem’ to win a cash prize. And if you don’t win on Saturday, don’t worry, there’s another chance on Sunday!
Some wonderful local businesses are supporting our fundraising event and have generously provided great prizes to be won. To win a prize, head to the Raffle ticket station to be in-it-to-win-it. In particular, we thank Gilbert Stephens Solicitors for their sponsorship of the festival.
Up at the church there will be a display of knitted garments being prepared to send to Moldova with the charity CR2EE. Fancy a panoramic view of the area? Well, you’re in luck! There will be a chance to go up the All Saints bell tower to admire the rolling countryside views. You can also try your hand at bellringing on both afternoons between 2 and 4pm.
Whether you are a dog owner or just have a soft spot for those four-legged canines, join us on the Recreation Field at midday on Sunday for the East Budleigh Dog Show. You will also find an impressive display of classic cars and rally cars in the village throughout the day.
Our event will close with a Songs of Praise service in All Saints Church at 6pm on Sunday evening.
We hope there will be something for everyone to enjoy – and strongly encourage you to bring cash so that you can join in all the fun! (£1 for car parking up on the rec).
If you would like to join the Friends, and/or join our 200 Club with the chance of winning a monthly cash prize, please download this letter and application form
